What was observed
A conversion reported by the browser arrived in a session where no declared step was seen earlier that day. Conversions confirmed from your server never raise it. If the conversion declares no steps, every conversion the browser reports raises this row.
It can mean the steps are not sent where you expect, or it can be a real conversion without the path, such as a returning customer following a link or a renewal.
Send at least one declared preceding step in the same session before the conversion.
What to check
- Check that each declared step actually fires where you think it does. A step on a page nobody passes through is a step that never arrives.
- Confirm the steps and the conversion share a session. Thirty minutes without activity starts a new one, and a checkout left open over lunch will cross that line.
- Check whether this conversion can happen without the declared steps. If it can, review whether the plan matches the real journey. Do not send steps that did not happen.
- If the conversion declares no steps, consider declaring the ones visitors pass through before it. Without steps, nothing notices a step that stops arriving.
